The Box
By Hattie Simon
The colors of the world, all on
a box
The blues the pinks, the colors
of bagels and lox.
So many different colors of
green,
Look! The color of a cocoa
bean.
Looking at this box, I see a
light green sea,
In Hawaii, that lovely palm
tree.
The bright yellow sun, the soft
violet strokes,
A sliver of gray, a cloud of
smoke.
On this box, the light color of
my hand,
On this box, the colors of the
land.
Raft
By Charlotte Eisenberg
drifting
floating
letting nature show you the
way—
drifting
floating
not caring where you go
drifting
floating
away
Aurora
By Lydia Fox
Cool palm tree green
indigo blue
shining above
ivory white
slithering, rippling
blue-green
shimmering
tinged with blinding yellow
ocean like
fading
changing
gone.
Stars
By Caitlin Harrison
Stars in the sky
get a twinkle in my eye
take out all my notebooks—
but then start to cry
the stars have gone away
and now it’s day.
