Levey Kindergarten Parents Share Their Satisfaction
We asked several of our newest community members – parents of
kindergarteners – to share with you how they and their children are
enjoying kindergarten in Morah Debbie Kanter’s classroom at Levey.
"Our daughter Emma developed a love of learning in her pre-school
years and we wanted this to continue with her kindergarten experience.
We feel we could not have a made a better choice than to enroll her at
Levey. For starters, Morah Debbie is a truly gifted teacher. She has
individual time for each student, she creates a positive structure and
classroom environment, and we know she leaves Emma feeling
motivated and eager to return to school each day. (As an aside, Emma
will often ask on Saturday, "Do I have school tomorrow?" To which we
answer, "No, you will go back on Monday." "Why can't it be tomorrow"
she asks, "I can't wait.")
We also like the integrative nature of the school. Emma is often helped
by older students with her projects. The students all intermingle at
recess and at other times during the day. I imagine that this must have
been how education began, as small schools with students of different
ages all learning together, the older students not simply learning but
developing the responsibility of caring for those that are younger. And
the younger children also profit from this arrangement by having positive
role models to look up to and interact with on a daily basis.
And lastly, we have been truly amazed at the academic progress Emma
has made in just four months. Her writing, her math skills, her singing,
her knowledge of the prayers and stories from the Torah, her drawing,
her grasp of Hebrew have all blossomed in a very short period of time.
And it is not simply in what she has learned at school. There is an
overall inquisitiveness that has been developed and nurtured and
carries over to her activities outside of school. It is very exciting as a
parent to watch this transformation. We would not hesitate for a moment
to recommend Levey as an exceptional choice for your child's education."

"Yesterday I asked my five-year-old, Shamani, what is his favorite part of
school. He answered, "I don't have a favorite part. It all is good." As a
parent, I can't really ask for a better answer to how he feels about his
entry into the world of education. Levey and Morah Debbie have provided
a safe, fun learning environment for Shamani and his older sister, who
joined Levey’s second grade this year. Every day they come home with
some new piece of information to add to their growing world of
knowledge and ideas. Some days Shamani comes home with a new
Hebrew letter he has learned or singing a Hebrew song. Other days he
comes home filled up with information about Helen Keller or about a
memorial for fallen soldiers in Washington D.C. My children sit in the
car during our half hour drive home from school and argue about when
did the dinosaurs die out...was that before or after Adam and Eve. They
haven't come up with the answer yet, but their spirited discussions keep
them entertained on the ride home.
If someone were to ask me what is my favorite part of Levey, I would
have to agree with my five-year-old: I don't have a favorite part. It is all
good."

"There are many qualities that Levey Day School possesses that are
exceptional, including the staff, extended curriculum, class size and the
facility itself. Beyond these qualities, when considering our options, we
were aware that we were choosing to become part of a community. One
aspect of community experience found at Levey, is the opportunity for
multi age exchange.
We sought the benefits of an educational community in which staff and
families share similar expectations and goals, yet value individual
differences. Through multi-age experiences at Levey, our child learns
alongside, and directly from, other students through their modeling the
possibilities of achievement and caring social interaction. Just as
important is the knowledge that she will have the pleasure and
responsibility of doing the same for other students, reinforcing the value
of being part of a community.
We are grateful to be a part of Levey Day School."
