Levey Parents Share Their Thoughts
As you are making your plans for where to send your child to school next
year, you may not even have stopped to really consider Levey.  Maybe
that’s because you don’t realize how ethnically and religiously diverse
our families are, with Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, and unaffiliated
Jews enrolled, as well as non-Jews.  Perhaps you don’t know that we
offer immersion foreign language.  Maybe you don’t realize that our
program spans pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, with a creative and
challenging secular program taught in very small classes.  Or perhaps
you aren’t aware that our commitment to making a Levey education
affordable coupled with the generous support of the Jewish community
means our tuition is a fraction of other private schools, with financial aid
available for kindergarten through fifth grade.

As an enthusiastic parent of one Levey graduate – exceedingly well
prepared for public middle school – one happy Levey student, and one
future Levey student, I can tell you what a special school and community
Levey is and urge you to visit and consider applying for admission.  But
my voice is only one of many very satisfied parents.  Here is what some
others have to say:

“This is our first year at Levey and we couldn't be more pleased. Levey
provides an intimate, caring, yet very structured environment that has
proved ideal in creating a strong motivation for learning in our daughter.
For us another major advantage at Levey is the opportunity to begin
learning a second language at a very young age. Because of Levey's
size, students in all grades, teachers and staff all know each other,
which adds to the learning environment.”
-- Catharine Scruggs, mother of Lucy, pre-kindergarten

“We've been so pleased to be a part of Levey Day School.  Among the
many unique qualities that we enjoy is class size.  Small class size
gives us greater opportunities to get to know our child's classmates and
their families.  Similarly, other families know our daughter. This has
enhanced our daughter's sense of belonging and being part of a
community.”
-- Ken Lemieux and Pam Weiss, parents of Elizabeth, first grade

“My husband and I have been amazed by two things in particular: (1) the
academic curriculum is fabulous, we cannot believe how much Hannah
has learned in such a short period of time; and (2) the fact that Morah
Debbie has instilled a love of being Jewish in Hannah.  She is so proud
to be Jewish and to tell us all about Jonah, Judah, Abraham, etc. and to
sing all of the songs and the chants.  It has been really amazing to see
her grow.  The holidays have been such a warm experience since she is
fully engaged.”
-- Kate Fishman, mother of Hannah, pre-kindergarten

“Cameron is thriving in the stimulating atmosphere at Levey.  Morah
Debbie, as well as everyone else, is great with the kids. The small class
and individualized attention and learning is why he is there.  He loves the
multi-age interaction, especially recess and his "reading buddies."
Lessons are absorbed in numerous fun ways that Cameron is growing
just by breathing at Levey.  It is also beautiful hearing Cameron singing,
without prompting, blessings and prayers he has learned. He does this
because he loves to and because they are his source of reference.  His
influences at school reflect our values.  We are all on the same team.  I
don't feel like we have to counteract negative language, behavior and
culture he could pick up elsewhere.  Cameron is confident and is getting
a great foundation from which he will springboard.”
-- Beth Park, mother of Cameron, pre-kindergarten

“I love Levey for many reasons, but one of my favorite things about the
school is the tefillot--morning prayers with Morah Camille. I sit in on
Friday mornings when I have the opportunity, and I always leave feeling
uplifted, centered, and refreshed. Starting the day with gratitude, song,
and prayer is a gift. I feel so grateful that my son George gets to
experience it every morning at school, and start his day in this way.”
-- Nicole Chaison, mother of George, second grade

“One of the best things we like about Levey is that it provides a basis for
teaching good moral values/good Jewish values.  I think that is so
important in developing an individual’s character.  I can see in the short
time Emma has been at Levey that she is developing good critical
thinking skills and learning priorities in her life that will serve her well in
the long run.”
-- Lisa Tabenken, mother of Emma, kindergarten

“What our family likes most about Levey is the personalized attention
that the children receive, not only their academic needs, but their social
and emotional ones as well.  We also love the fact that Judaism and
Jewish life are part of our every day existence, not just something we
think about on Sunday morning or Friday night.”
-- Melissa Montefel, mother of Brianna, fifth grade, and Isabel, third grade

“I like the quality and commitment of the staff, the low student/teacher
ratio, the new & air conditioned facility, and that Greg had the knowledge
and confidence to lead the Yigdal at a recent service.”
-- Ken Levinsky, father of Gregory, second grade
