About Us
For over half a century, Levey Day School has served as Maine’s only
Jewish day school. Levey Day School was founded in 1952.  In 2002, we
moved to our new facility, located in the building at Temple Beth El, on
Deering Avenue in Portland. Levey graduates have gone on to thrive in
public middle schools, private schools, and the community at large.

Excellent Judaic and Secular Education
At Levey, our mission is to provide an excellent Judaic and secular
education for our community’s children during their elementary school
years. We educate students to be intellectually curious, self-disciplined,
independent thinkers. And we endeavor to inspire our students to
embrace a lasting love of Judaism while respecting the diversity within
the Jewish community and the world.

Jewish education has been one of the single most important factors in
Jewish survival and continuity. We believe that this is especially true
today, in America, for Jews to be able to continue to flourish as a people.

Levey Day School is dedicated to creating an environment in which all of
its stakeholders—parents, students, teachers, support personnel,
synagogues, and rabbinical and Jewish community leadership—feel
like a vital part of our children’s education, working together to fulfill the
mission of our school now and in generations to come.
