Educational Vision

A Core of Substantive Knowledge
Levey Day School is committed to teaching an in-depth knowledge of
Hebrew language; sacred Jewish texts and rituals; traditions and
customs; and Jewish values and perspectives. We teach Hebrew as
both a living language and as the language of Torah and prayer.

We are equally dedicated to excellence in our secular program, which
encompasses language arts, mathematics, social and natural
sciences, music, art, and physical education.

Throughout both Judaic and secular studies, our highly creative faculty
engage, challenge, and inspire our students.

The Development of Values
Levey advocates the highest standards of responsibility and ethical
behavior, both between individuals and with regard to the community
and the environment. We work toward fostering respectful and tolerant
behaviors and attitudes. We are dedicated to developing our students’
awareness of their relationship to G-d.

Personal Development
Levey seeks a balanced, well-rounded education of the whole child. We
create a caring, stimulating, and challenging educational environment in
which self-confidence, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving can
be cultivated. In addition, we emphasize cooperation, forging
partnerships, and team building to solve problems and enhance
learning. We carefully consider the intellectual growth of each child,
recognizing that there are differences in individual learning styles. Our
teachers use a variety of methods and techniques in order to provide
students with successful experiences that nurture their individuality and
their intellectual and moral growth.

Thriving in Diversity
As a community Jewish day school, Levey recognizes and respects
Jewish diversity. We welcome children from all families, regardless of
affiliation, who are seeking a Jewish education. Our families represent a
broad spectrum of the community and come from all denominations
and income levels. The school is a functioning learning community. It
models committed Jewish living in which basic Jewish values, such as
ritual and ethical commandments, holiness and charitable acts, and
acts of loving kindness are fostered in our students through the
curriculum and a variety of activities and projects.

A School That is a Community and Understands its Connection to a
Larger Community
Levey is a community school, which means we are chartered to serve
Jewish families of various affiliations. We also view Levey as a
community unto itself--and those involved with the school feel a sense
of responsibility in supporting other Levey families. We work toward
nurturing this sense of community because we realize that the success
of any school depends on an ongoing partnership between the school
and home.

Furthermore, we recognize the need to build bridges between the
school and the community at large by involving students, parents, and
faculty with other Jewish and secular organizations in various
celebrations, activities, and educational endeavors.
