PRE-KINDERGARTEN TEACHER (AGES 3 AND 4)

 

Salary Range $30,000-$40,000.00 and based on experience. Health benefits included.

 

Job description: 

Levey Day School, an independent and accredited Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 school in Portland, Maine, is hiring a full-time Pre-Kindergarten teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.  We are seeking someone to act as co-teacher in the classroom with another Pre-Kindergarten teacher.  The teacher will share supervisory, teaching, and planning responsibilities.  

 

The candidate must have a natural love of children, unending patience, flexibility, and understanding; be a positive role model for children and colleagues; be a terrific team player with their co-teacher; and display a wonderful sense of humor. The candidate will provide an engaging, safe, and nurturing learning environment, bringing new ideas for activities to engage young children.  A part of a large faculty group, the candidate will work seamlessly with colleagues who teach kindergarten to eighth grade.

 

Program Information:

We are a NEASC accredited Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 school. Levey's Pre-Kindergarten program provides a stimulating, engaging and challenging play & discovery-based program that blends the secular and Judaic curricula.

 

We offer a range of hands-on learning experiences while focusing on each child's individual needs.  Levey’s developmentally-appropriate program helps to stimulate and build the foundation to successful growth within a nurturing environment.  The pre-kindergarten students are an integral part of the larger student body of kindergarteners through eighth graders.

 

Schedule and Responsibilities:

The hours during the regular school calendar will be full time Monday-Friday scheduled between the hours of 7:30am - 3:30pm (students are here from 7:45am-3:00pm).   Bimonthly full staff meetings are held to discuss whole school topics.  Regular planning meetings with the co-teacher will take place after dismissal.

 

Other required attributes and skills:

  • A passion for creating a joyful, safe learning environment both inside and outdoors

  • Boundless energy

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A minimum of 2 years experience teaching in childcare, teaching, or other related field

  • Able to establish and maintain healthy and safe partnerships with parents and guardians

  • Ability to lift at least 20 lbs. and be outside in all kinds of weather

  • Hold an associate’s, bachelor’s, and/or master's in early education or related field

  • Experience in a values-based school setting preferred, but not required

 

Hours: 

This position is a full-time, non-exempt position.  Beyond regular and consistent classroom time, this position requires participation in school meetings, some out of school functions, and planning.

 

Start Date: August, 2024.

12-month FT Salary: $30,000-$40,000 commensurate with experience.  Levey offers all full-time employees health insurance and paid time off for school vacations during the school year.

GUEST TEACHERS

Levey is always looking for experienced teachers to come onto campus when necessary to fill in for a teacher in her/his classroom.  Often called substitutes, Levey uses the term "guest teacher".  Guest teaching positions are available in general education and Hebrew Language.  Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
