Brief History

Founded in 1952 as the Portland Hebrew Day School.  Proud to be the only Jewish day school north of Boston, MA.  Accredited by the State of Maine.  Accepted as a Candidate for accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in 2022.

Beginning in Fall, 2024, Levey is accepting 3 year olds as part of our new preschool program!

Diversity is Our Strength
Levey is a socio-economically and culturally diverse school.  Families of all faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds are active parts of our community.
Demographics
Levey students come from 4 counties in Maine and several towns and cities including Bowdoinham, Brunswick, Cape Elizabeth, Durham, Falmouth, Durham, Freeport, Gorham, Gray, Portland, Saco, Scarborough, South Portland, Westbrook, Windham and Yarmouth.
We Love the Arts
The Arts are abundant in everything our students do and learn.  Performing arts, visual arts, and music are central to the core of our program.   Connections are often made with our Jewish history and culture classes and the arts.
In the Classroom
Starting in September, 2024 Levey is beginning a preschool for 3 year olds.

Additionally, there are two homerooms in our Lower School (K-1 and 2-3) and two homerooms in Upper School (4-5; 6-8).

We have expert teachers who are great partners with parents.
Family Involvement
Levey families are actively engaged partners with the school.  There is a vibrant Family Parent Association which holds frequent family get togethers at local parks, Sea Dogs, Red Claws, and Mariners games, meet ups to ice skate, bowl, hike among a host of other activities.   They also show appreciation for teachers and staff throughout the school year.
Foreign Language
Hebrew Language instruction begins in Pre-Kindergarten and continues throughout middle school.

We Love the Outdoors

Our students go outside for recess and other outdoor learning experiences in all sorts of weather.  We partner with our families to ensure that each child has rain and snow gear so our students are safe and ready, can get fresh air, and be active and engaging with our natural world.
